Day 7, Time to head home
It has been an amazing week, travelling some challenging 4wd tracks
Todays plan had been to go on the Donnelly River cruise to find a cache near the river mouth
Shane and Kaitlin had to be back in Perth this evening to prepare for a trip to Bali and would not be joining the cruise
This morning it was overcast with some light rain which put a damper on things a bit
So due partly to the weather not being ideal and Charlie wishing to continue the day with Kaitlin for the morning we decided to give the cruise a miss this time.
We said our goodbyes to Mistraluna and Wayne and headed off towards Pemberton
Along the way we stopped to check out a cache not far off the road
Lefroy Brook GC1JGVH
We were somewhat concerned about entering this area due to a warning sign at the start of the track in
Shane was not so concerned so we pushed on and had an easy find at GZ
We carried on to the Diamond Tree.
Charlie and Kailin once again showed not fear or hesitation in climbing to the top
The Diamond Tree is a giant Karri tree located 10km South of Manjimup, Western Australia on the South Western Highway.
A wooden viewing platform built in 1939 is located 49 metres up, and is the oldest wooden platform fire look-out still in use today.
The Diamond Tree is one of three lookout trees in the Southern Forests and was used as a fire lookout every summer from 1941 to 1973. The tower is still used by DEC (Department of Environment & Conservation) to support aerial surveillance from time to time.
There is a cache here which I had already found but went for a walk with Shane to have a look for it and it was an easy find
Discover Pemberton - Gloucester Tree GC52793
This is where we parted company with Shane and Kailin, they headed back home to Perth and we set course for Margaret River
Along the way we stopped for a roadside park and grab which was meant to be on a sign but ended up as a DNF, if I had looked at the previous 20 logs I would not have bothered to stop, ha ha
Charlie was not interested in stopping for anymore caches and we continued towards home, stopping at Nannup to get some lunch then for a short drive to get home
An amazing adventure has come to an end and now its time for a good rest and recharge the caching batteries for the next adventure...……….Nickles Knob???????
