Day 1, Friday
Made it. Long drive from Margs 😁
The first cache of the weekend of many fun and interesting caches
I was quite tired after the long drive but it was good to meet up with other cachers and have a bit of a chat
As people slowly filtered away to their nearby accommodation it was time for me to go find somewhere to park the Ute to camp for the night
As it was quite dark now I found a spot along the nearby river bank which was a little way off the main road out of sight of most of the passing traffic
There was a cache nearby here, which I went off to find before setting up my camping gear for the night

I had to negotiate the creek bed to cross over to the correct side
It did not take too long to find the container but searching in the dark did make it a bit more of a challenge

The cache was soon signed and replaced as found
I had to set up the back of my ute as my bed as I did not want to draw unwanted attention by setting up my camp cot as I usually would
I had gone to the trouble of bringing my generator with me and planned to having running during the night so I could have a heater on in the back
I failed to check however that it actually had any fuel in it from the last time I had used it and I had not bothered to fill up the spare fuel container
No probs, will just have to rough it
After moving containers out of the back and stashing stuff wherever I could fit it in the car, I set up my blow up mattresses in the back and jumped in to settle down for the night
OMG!!! What a horrible night, FREEEEEZING COLD!!!! and I could not get comfortable at all
The THREE blow up mattresses I had brought with me all were punctured and would not hold pressure, also there was not enough room to stretch out my legs and I was cramped up all night
During the night my ancient sleeping bag (30yrs old) developed a bit of a split in the lining fabric which caused the filling, eider down feathers, to spill out during the night and they were everywhere in the back. Sadly that fantastic sleeping bag is going to have to be retired
Of course I was awake very early and was pleased to be able to enjoy a wonderful sunrise and a bonus treat of seeing hot air balloons landing in a paddock nearby
That is an experience which I am keen to try and might treat myself for my birthday later in the year
Well off to have a look around town and see what I can scrounge for breakfast before meeting the other cachers at the event site
