Relentless Heat

This last few days have been scorching hot with a 42deg day on Tuesday

Wed 26 Sept 2018

9.30 am and already very hot, I headed out for another day of caching adventures

Point Samson Train Station

Driving past this one again on my way out of town so I took the opportunity to give it another shot
This time I lay on the ground and had a look underneath, Bingo, there it was right in front of my face Ha Ha, too easy :)
A quick sign of the log and off to the next destination

Train looking good in the morning sun

Look Out Wickham!

Wickham Area Trig 2 Wickham, WA                        TP7805

This one took a bit more of an effort, I was able to drive part way up the hill on a bit of a rough track which soon degraded to a hard core washed out track which I was not willing to tackle in my borrowed vehicle
This was my second attempt at this one, I came up here yesterday and was right at the top where the trig point is and my phone rang with a job so had to abandon my search to attend the call out
Today I tried a different approach using a better track to get to the safe parking area
The walk up to the top was not difficult but the temp was now in the 40s and was like walking around in a fan forced oven
At the top I got some pics of the trig point then set off to GZ
A quick search revealed the cache in the obvious spot
Log signed, some photos of the view and then it was back down to the cool aircon of the car, phew!

Watching the trains                                  GC6A4VT

This next cache was a nice easy park and grab and I had a quick find in the obvious place and the log was soon signed and the cache back in place
I did not get to see any trains passing under the bridge on this visit

Port Walcott Hideaway                             GC45MVF

Heading out to this one took me to a nice beach which looked very inviting for a cooling dip but I was not prepared with any swimming shorts, plus I was not sure about the safety factor in these northern waters
I found a park next to the road not far from GZ and set off up the sand dune when my phone rang
I had another job to attend, it was not an urgent one so I had a quick look around and soon found the cache
I signed the log and dropped in a travel bug to continue on its journey and then rushed off into town for the call out

Thurs 27 Sept 2018

Cape Lambert Area Point Samson, WA                    TP2359

Another hot day, this one took me back to the beach where I had been yesterday
Some cars were parked on the beach here but I decided not to risk getting my borrowed vehicle bogged
The trig point is in the sand dunes which can be seen in the photo above across the little bay
I found an access track through the dunes and was able to park close to the trig which was visible on the top of the dune
I took some photos and looked at where the next trig was located

Cossack Area Wickham, WA                                TP3476

Back tracking a short way I found a 'private' service road into the back blocks accessing various infrastructure
There were no signs indicating that it was a restricted area so I continued on
This next trig was at the top of a tall rocky outcrop which are a common geological feature of the area
I parked at the base of the hill under a large power line and started my trek up the hill
The slope gradually became steeper and the ground underfoot was slippery, loose, coarse rubble which required careful choice of where to step
There was a patchwork of spikey spinifex and it was mostly possible to weave a way between the patches on exposed pathways created by the resident wallabies
Once at the top I was able to follow the GPS on the phone to get to GZ
The vane here is missing and I found 4 separate points where rods had been driven into the ground and were surrounded by a small circle of concrete but no disc was to be found
There were some great views from up here and I took some scenery panorama pics of the surrounding area

Cape Lambert Area Point Samson, WA                 TP3476

Continuing along the service road I headed North towards my next trig
This road took me to a high hill with Telstra towers on top
The trig was right next to a convenient parking area complete with a lookout point
There was no vane here, just a star picket with a plaque and a round concrete disc with a metal tag imbedded in it
The view from the top was down onto the area where the ore trains emptied their dusty red ore into hoppers to be sent via conveyors to long high piles which are then in turn scooped up by huge rotating scoops to be once again loaded onto conveyers and then emptied into waiting ships moored at very long jetties
I sat in the cool of the car for a good while watching the trains unload and enjoying the view
I then headed into town to make myself some lunch in the cool of the airconditioning
My caching day ended after my lunch break as I once again had a call out to attend
