This heat is a killer

This morning I was awake very early so I decided to go find a trig nearby to my accommodation at the Cove Holiday Village in Point Sampson
TP0026 Point Samson Point Samson, Western Australia, Australia

I drove to the top of the hill nearby and stopped in a small parking area
A traveller in a Transit van had spent the night here and was parked nearby
The sun had not yet risen and there was a golden glow on the horizon
The view from the top of the hill is a spectacular 360 degree panorama
To the East below the hill there is the suburb of Point Sampson fringing the coastline and the ocean stretches out beyond with a glassy stillness
Small islands are dotted around the surrounding coastline and channel markers blinked in the early morning light
The sun rose a blazing orange ball from behind one to the islands bathing the town in it's warm orange glow
Looking to the West the full moon was gradually growing fatter and fading into the haze while slowly sinking towards it's resting place below the horizon
Northwards are long brightly lit jetties waiting for the iron ore ships to dock and fill their empty bellies with red dust
To the South lies the mining village of Wickham nestled among knobby hills scattered around flat surrounding landscape
The Trig no longer has the vane and consists of a round concrete pad with the bronze marker set in the middle
A marker is place on a star picket nearby
I took some photos and headed off on my adventure

I wanted to get some caches done before it gets too hot

8am and its already 30 degrees
Continuing into town I took a detour on the way to have a look for this one
I noticed that there had been a couple of DNFs previous to my visit today so was somewhat apprehensive about finding this one and after reading the CO profile was more convinced that this was going to be a DNF as there had not been a log in for almost 2 years
I parked my 2wd vehicle in the turn around area of the gravel road and walked the short distance along the sandy track to GZ
Some private property signs made me a bit nervous but resolved to take the chance
I climbed up the rubble bank and looked into the ditch, as previously stated by other cachers there was some building rubble but nothing recently dumped or offensive
I carefully poked around among the rubble being mindful of potential hazards, mostly snakes
I soon found the container nestled in the obvious place
The container and the contents were in suprisingly good condition and looked like it had been placed there quite recently or had been well maintained
I wandered over to the waters edge for a look, the tide was flowing in strongly creating little eddy currents
The water had a brown scum on the surface with fallen leaves trapped in the scum just near the pipe at the shore, apart from that the water was crystal clear and mullet were schooling under the surface scum
No sea eagles today

On the way into town I stopped on the way to have a look for this one
I took my 2wd vehicle in on a track at the southern end of the hill and parked in a small turn around
This is the steep end of the hill so I started on up along a very rocky steep track heading straight up
It doesn't seem possible that anyone would be able to drive up here so it may be just used to come back down after getting up from the other side
There are lots of bits of vehicles, which have broken off, scattered along the track
The walk up was not too demanding even though it was quite steep and slippery with loose rocks underfoot and I was soon at the top within a few meters of GZ
A short search revealed the container and I had soon logged my find
There was a bit of trash in the container, a squidgy lizard which had melted in the heat and stuck to everything, a bottle top and some calling cards
I appears that water has been getting in and both the old log book and the newer one are showing signs of water damage
The remains of a disintegrated zip lock bag fell out as crumbs
Luckily the pencil was functional as I had forgotten my pen and was not keen on a return journey up that hill, Ha Ha
Once the log was signed and the container placed back in it's hidey place I was able to enjoy the spectacular 360 degree views, taking some photos before carefully making my way back down the steep slippery track to the van
