Monday Nov 5, Day 3
Waking early we had a quick breakfast and packed up camp to continue our travels
Today was the official start of our Holland Track Trip but we had plenty of time before we met up with the other members of the group so we had time to explore and find a cache or two
We had entry into the Wave Rock area included in our camping fee and went to climb the rock.
There was no-one checking to see if we had paid the entry fee or to collect any tickets so we continued through the entry to the rock face Wave. I have been here a few times but I am always impressed by natures creations.
Lots of wildflowers along the track
As the afternoon wore on we decided to find a camp site and stopped to set up our camp for the night
After dinner we sat around the campfire chatting then off to bed for the night

I had logged the caches here on my previous visits but Mistraluna need to find the information required to be able to log the Earthcache
We carried on to where there were some display boards which provided us with the required info and then set off up the nearby steps to climb up onto the rock.
We made our way up coming across a rock pile city. Various visitors had been creating rock cairns in an area of the rock. Not very environmentally friendly for the local lizard inhabitants but still an interesting spectacle.
Once we had reached the top and collected all the info for the Earthcache we got some photos and made our way down to our next destination
WST - Lake Magic GC791N4
We pulled up the car pretty close to GZ and made a quick find, signed the log and enjoyed the view for a while and getting some photos of the nearby artwork.
We had plenty of time before setting off so we got a fuel top up at the self service fuel depot and saved ourselves over 10c per litre.
After a bit of last minute shopping at the local IGA we met up at the rendezvous point for a greeting then we all set off in convoy to the start of the Holland Track.
From Hyden, we headed east on the Lake King Hyden Road, turning left onto the Holland Track about 50km east of Hyden
Here we started our 4 wheel adventure heading north on the Holland Track.
Lots of wildflowers along the track
Our first cache along the track was at Emu Rocks
Cruzin' #2 GCVRR1
This spot would make a nice campsite but it was still early in the morning so it was not logical to stop and set up camp here as we had a lot of ground to cover ahead of us
The walk to the top was a little taxing but I took my time and soon made it to the top to be able to appreciate some terrific views.
Back down at the carpark the convoy continued on.
Along the track we came across a plaque commemorating the bicentennial of the Holland track
We crossed the Rabbit Proof Fence along the way enjoying the many wild flowers by the side of the track
Where the track crossed the Hyden - Norseman Rd there was a plaque dedicated to John Holland
At times the track stretched ahead of us in an arrow straight line with the occasional puddle to negotiate. I was quite happy to drive around them as I had no intention of risking damage to my vehicle
Sometimes we came across a more difficult washout which required careful negotiation
After some time we came to a tall phone tower, there was a cache hidden nearby so we stopped to have a look and take the opportunity to stretch the legs
DD3-20 Take a Chance - Call Me GC2E47Y
We did not have to venture too far from where we parked and soon had the log signed and carried on our journey
We spent the rest of the day moving slowly along the track negotiating the many bog holes, in every case we were able to drive around them via some side tracks
As the afternoon wore on we decided to find a camp site and stopped to set up our camp for the night
After dinner we sat around the campfire chatting then off to bed for the night
This day had been a great experience, seeing some wonderful countryside and lots of wild flowers
I was looking forward to the next day to continue the adventure
