Holland Track Adventure, Nov 2018, Day 6

Coolgardie to Kalgoolie to Lake Lefroy

The adventure continues with the usual early morning wake up. After a quick breakfast we decided to head off on our own caching mission today
A farewell to the rest of the group and we were off

We drove straight to Kalgoorlie to pick up some caches which Mistraluna was keen to find with our first stop being

Time Warp                                        GC6RV1N

The puzzle for this one was a bit ambiguous at first but the logic light came on in my head and I tried the numbers and the padlock popped open
The checker did not like my numbers despite trying various ways of entering them so don't know what the deal with that is. Don't know what I'm doing wrong
Nice to find an ammo can out in the wild

Driving on to Kalgoorlie we came across the Anzac series and we started with this one (1) Ha Ha

ANZAC 101-1 Gallipoli                     GC6HE6F

A quick find here and then moved on to the next one along the drive

ANZAC 101-2 Dardanelles             GC6HE8Y

This was an interesting find as there was 2 cache containers in the same place
I could only guess that one went missing and was replaced then the old one turned up
Signed both logs

ANZAC 101-3 Constantinople           GC6HEYT

Another quick find here and on to the next one

ANZAC 101-5 Lone Pine                GC6HF00

Staying on the same side of the road we continued on to this one for a quick find

ANZAC 101-6 Nurses and Hospital Ships GC6HF1P

Another quick find here and on to the next one

ANZAC 101-7 Ataturk                     GC6HF27

Mistraluna found the cache while I was turning the car around
She thought the container was so cool that she made me hop out and go have a look
I agreed, Ha Ha.
While I was putting one of my stickers on the log I noticed something
'Ev, what is this code? Is there a final for this series and we need to collect the code words to find a final? Have you been doing that ?
Oh, no. Guess what we will have to go back and collect them all from the caches we have found already. Ha Ha.'

ANZAC 101-4 Chunuk Bair              GC6HW9G

We had to back track to get this one after finding some of the others in the series as it was on the other side of the road
Managed to navigate through the bush to GZ with no clear track to follow
Easy find once we got there

ANZAC 101-8 Anzac Cookies            GC6HWEE

Once we had collected all the clues for this one we just had to combine them all to reveal the final GZ then go sign the log
This was such a great series, we had lots of fun finding the caches then solving the puzzle
Also the recipe inspired me to give it a go at home, looking forward to some yummy Anzac cookies
After this we drove to the lookout at the superpit so Mistraluna could collect the required information to be able to log the Earth cache located here
I had been here a few times previously and already logged this cache but I did not need too much convincing to return to this amazing feat of human engineering
The mine was non operational at the time of this visit due to a recent rock fall on the working face caused by an earth tremor
We met up with one of the other team members while here

Nearby we went to a little hill where there was a lookout over the town

Nanny Goat Hill                               GC25T5V

We had a good look around but once we noticed the long list of DNF's we cut our losses and carried on
The view from the top was nice
My companion seemed a little grumpy and I decided she needed a sugar hit, and so did I, so I made a quick detour to the local McDonalds drive through for a Chai latte and custard pie for myself. Mistraluna indulged in a decadent caramel swirl shake, ha ha.
With our blood sugar now in overload we had plenty of energy to carry on caching

Another hill to climb, a bit higher but at least we could drive most of the way too the top, ha ha

Kalgoorlie GPS (Gold) Rush                  GCG115

Again I had previously found this GC cache but Mistraluna had not. I did not need too much convincing to enjoy the views from up here again

There is a GCA cache here which I had tried a few time to find but without luck

Kalgoorlie -ICEM Williamstown, Western Australia GA7187

Today I found very quickly with Mistraluna, so quickly that it was a bitter-sweet victory, as I had come several times previously searching long and hard but, obviously, not in the right place. Ha Ha
I was able to add my name to the log at long last and replaced the cache as found

Next was to one on the list of highly favourited caches

Fly me to the Doctor                            GC4QVXZ

This was a quick easy find and log was soon signed and cache replaced where found

Our next cache I had found on previous visits but I thought it was an important one to get so was happy to visit again so Mistraluna could get a smilie here

Desert Oasis                                      GCM4AH

We met up with other members of our travel group while here and had a chat about our days caching

I was feeling a bit peckish and was thinking about what to have for lunch. I had a craving for a nice steak and Mistraluna was craving a nice cold beer. However time was getting away and we had a lot of ground to cover ahead of us
I can't remember what we ended up having for lunch but I don't think it was very fancy, ha ha

Time for us to head out of town now, I know Mistraluna wanted to get every cache in town but we did not have time for that on this trip. At least we have an excuse to come back another time and mop up the ones we had to leave behind

We filled up with cheap fuel at the local Woolworths fuel, got some last minute groceries from the nearby Woolies and Mistraluna grabbed a bottle of wine on the way out.
She then decided she wanted her beer but when she went back into the bottle shop they refused to serve her as they said there was some strange rule that you could only be served once in a day, weird.
She was not happy at all, ha ha. We solved the problem by me going in and buying a six pack for her and we were good to carry on again

We were heading South out of town, along the way we stopped for a park and grab

Pay Your Respects                    GC5JNPP

We had to jump the fence here after parking in a bit of shade near the road
Cache was a quick easy find and we signed the log, replaced the cache as found and carried on to our next stop

The Crucible                                GC2C761

Interesting old relics
Another park and grab and back in the car to carry on our journey

Another cache on the way out of town but a slight detour up a steep rocky 4wd track

the Two Towers                                  GCQJ56

Nice to find another ammo can :) and some great views from up here

A GCA trig point was also here

Two Towers Trig Yilkari, Western Australia        TP7432

Photos were taken to be able to log the TP

Gold Rock View                                     GC5348C

Nearby we had a bit of fun negotiating to a spot close enough to GZ to have a short walk up the hill to find the cache
Great views of the surrounding area here

Continuing south we stopped to grab a few caches along the way

Kept in the dark and fed on …           GC6M0X1

Should have been a quick park and grab but GPSr was sending us on a wild goose chase but we got to the correct spot eventuallySadly the pots which had been placed at the top of the hill had be thrown down and smashed

Country Cache VI - Kalgoorlie            GC6HCB1

A quick park and grab on the way past

The Krusty Krab                                        GC7NPM9

No luck here today, so moved on

Halo 4                                                     GC7NR33

No luck today
What Mistraluna said, wrong side of road, coords way out :(
Not happy spent too much time on this one

Call Me                                                        GC2C8VM

A slight detour for this one and we found the container to be broken but luckily I had a spare with me and we were able to perform some cache maintenance

Salt Lake Cit... Country Town?                GCVXAK

Arriving in town late in the afternoon we had to limit our time here but the views were well worth the stop, also nice to find another ammo can :)

Gearbox Noticeboard                           GC4DD01

Another DNF here :(
Had a pretty thorough look for this one but it eluded our joint efforts, probing every hole and crevice :(

Kambaldas Lost Pioneers                    GC27E0X

Another quick park and grab as we were in a race against the setting sun and needed to find a place to camp for the night

Railway Station Was Us                       GC27RG9

Arriving here very late after checking out the local camp site but realizing we would not be able to stay here as we were technically not 'Fully self sufficient' as in a caravan with a shower and toilet
Car camping was prohibited so we thought we might find a spot to camp nearby to this cache
When we arrived it was already past sunset and light was fading very fast
We found the cache and then took the opportunity to cook up some diner
I was considering finding a spot in the bush nearby but as we were packing up after diner, two vehicle drove past very fast where we had stopped for our diner, not long after there was a huge explosion as if someone had let of a stick of dynamite.
Not too far fetched as we were deep in mining country, we rapidly packed up and headed off once more to look for a campsite.

We continued south coming to the turnoff to Lake Lefroy
After a bit of a check of some likely spots we eventually found a small clearing off a side road
We quickly set up our camp beds and were soon off to sleep after such an amazing hectic day, it seems like we had lived a week in a day.
