Holland Track Adventure, Nov 2018, Day 8
Newdegate, Nov 10
After a relaxing sleep inside the shed out of the weather we were now refreshed and ready for another big day of traveling and caching
Once we had packed up we said our goodbyes to our host and headed off
Our first stop was the town silos which had been colourfully painted with murals a part of the Silo Trail
https://www.publicsilotrail.com/
Then after a bit of a drive around town to see some of the sights
We planned to continue following the Holland track which now consisted of driving mostly on sealed country roads, not following the exact track but generally following in a rough direction
So we headed off, however there seemed to be a bit of GPS direction confusion and we were not following the planned path
We stopped at the Newdegate weather radar to turn around and head back the way we had come to get back on track
Now on the Newdegate - Pingerup Rd we headed towards the little town of Pingerup
Here we found another set of silos which had been painted with murals
Along with the slightly quirky roadhouse general store we found an artwork of a sheep shearing handpiece to amuse us
On our way out of town we stumbled upon a spectacular pink salt lake and just had to stop to get some photos
After taking lots of photos we carried on towards Nyabing
Along the way we stopped and made a slight detour to look at one of the watering holes created along the Holland track which were referred to as Tanks
Here we found our first caches of the day, first stop was a quick park and grab

After a bit of a look around town we visited the local store to grab an ice-cream treat before heading off again, along the way we stopped to pick up some more park and grabs

Seems this used to be a post office in former times
Another derelict slice of history slowly returning to dust
While in the area we spotted an old church and stopped to have a look around

There is a plaque here to commemorate the centenary of the Holland Track and a sign to mark where it once existed
Lake Coyrecup GC5TM5P
Next cache was at an old derelict building for a quick park and grab after nearly blasting past it, ha ha
Ewlymartup GC5TM5K
A quick back up and park and grab
We meandered down a few country roads, turning here and there taking a rough south west route
After a while we managed to connect up to the last bit of the still existing track which would take us down to Broomehill
Along the way we stopped to get the second last cache on the Holland Track before the end
What no Windmills? GCN3XB
We wandered back and forth for a while until the cache revealed itself, a quick sign of the log and then on to the end of the track
Holland Beginning GC59FJ9
A quick park and grab, took a couple of photos to celebrate completing the Holland Track from start to finish
A great sense of achievement for me as I had been wanting to tackle this iconic Aussie historic track for some time
I was great to be able to share the experience with some great people and have an amazing adventure along the way
Perhaps I can return in the future to retrace our steps, but starting at this point and working my way north
We continued on to the small town of Broomehill to have a bit of a look around
There was not a lot happening, the pub and the museum were shut.
We were needing to get something for lunch and found a nice park where we could make ourselves some wraps and a cuppa
It was time now to make the long journey home so we started heading north through Katanning bypassing a whole bunch of caches along the way, for another time maybe
We stopped in Wagin to grab a cache

A quick park and grab here then moving on
Along the way we had been driving past fields of wheat all day, I saw an opportunity to stop and check out the fields of golden grains and grab a handful
