Day 2
It was a relaxed start to the morning, after breakfast the kids wanted to have a swim before we left so we packed up camp while they enjoyed themselves
Mistraluna and Wayne had left early to grab some nearby caches
We needed to get to our event for the trip start at Karridale by 9am so it was a bit of a last minute rush to finish packing up and to get on the road
South Coast TACT Event GC81T8P
We met up at the Karridale roadhouse with some other cachers joining in the event
A snack for breakfast was provided for Charlie having a hot chips and a drink
We sat around and chatted geocaching for about an hour and then said our goodbyes to the ones not joining the trip and headed off to find our next cache
We stopped at Nilup store to get a group photo and turned off here to head south towards the beach
Somehow I had been delegated lead vehicle despite having no map as I had left my printed map at home and had forgotten to grab the SES mapbook
I did have some dodgy phone maps to go by so we set off in the rough direction of where the cache was
There was a few hiccups along the was as my assumed route directly to the cache was blocked by a gate proclaiming no access permitted, we set off down the road to another possible access point but was once again stopped by a gate
We tried a possible route around the private properties but came to a lake which was too deep to cross over by foot and a very long walk around
At this stage we were quite close to another of my caches so the group decided to go and get that one while here
The Other Side GC3D75Y
While we were signing the log the kids decided to check out the river nearby
We then set off on a bit of an adventure to once again try to find a path to our next cache
Following a fire trail along a boundary fence we came to an area where we could not take the vehicles any further
We parked and set off on foot following a fence line, the track petered out and became thick bush, we changed direction heading west once again following a fence line which took us around a swampy lowland
We could see the hut on the hill but the group decided to take the long cut around the swampy area,
over the dunes, and onto the beach...……………..
for a nice stroll up the beach to the cache...……………...
The track from the beach to the hut was challenge...………...
but worth the effort to enjoy the views from the hut at
South Coast Hut GC74H79
Charlie was first to the hut and had found the cache just lying on the ground as it looked as if it had fallen from its hiding place
We signed the log and Charlie put it back where it would be safe again
The return journey back to the vehicle was a bit easier as we could walk through the swampy wetland as it was dry at this time of year
The lake here is called Swan Lake and lived up to its name by hosting about a dozen black swans
Once back at the vehicles we made our way back out to Scott river road and turned to the east until we joined up to Milyeanup Coast road
We stopped at the junction here to air down our tyres in anticipation for some soft sandy parts of the track, and we were going to encounter our fair share of those, ha ha
Along the way we passed some very large orange xmas trees in some of the thickest groups I have seen, it was an amazing sight
The track was a beautiful drive through National park and past farmlands
We soon came to the turn off to Black Point, Wayne headed off down the track but did not have enough momentum and sank into the soft sand and quickly became badly bogged
We all started digging the soft sand out from behind the wheels with the Maxtracks and Shane hooked up his winch to the back of Wayne's car
While we were digging a baby dugite snake decided to check out what we were all up to and slithered around for a while before disappearing into the bush on the other side of the track
After a couple of tries we pulled Wayne's car out and we all continued on to the Black point camping area
We drove around and checked out all the available spots
It was getting a bit late in the afternoon so we had to quickly set up camp before the sun set so we didn't have to cook dinner in the dark
It had been a huge day and the fatigue was starting to set in, it was good to relax and chat about the days adventure
Tomorrow would be another huge adventure
