South Coast tag along caching trip, day 6

Day 6

After packing up camp and having some breakfast we had to stop and pick up one last cache which we had missed on the previous day

Bay View rest                                        GC7D3FA

There was a strong smell of pine as we approached the lookout but it was not an unpleasant smell reminding me of Pino clean
We sat on the bench and enjoyed the morning sun while discussing the days plans

We decided to head into Northcliffe to find some new caches there, the others wanted to stop along the way to grab some caches which had been bypassed the previous day
One was at the top of Mt Chudalup, an Earthcache which I had found previously but decided to stop and do the walk up to the top

The views from up here were amazing, all the surrounding countryside and the ocean at Windy Harbour

We headed in to Northcliffe and as it was now close to lunchtime we stopped at a local café for a snack of some hot chips
We went to the local store and treated ourselves with an icecream
Charlie wanted to check out the local skate park and took his scooter for a bit of a spin
Once he had finished we went off to grab a local cache

"Doc" Ryan                                                GC7YAER

An easy find with a hint from previous finders

We then continued on towards Pemberton again, stopping along the way to look at

The Cascades                                               GC1P8EC

There was not a lot of water moving around and over the Cascades at this time of year, it would be good to see it in the middle of winter with a good flow happening

The kids went exploring and playing in the creek and I went off to find the cache

I got distracted by the loop track and the signs along the way, I thought I might walk the loop and set off. After about 20 minutes I came to a 'You are Here' sign and realized that I had a long way to get to the end so I turned around and headed back
Along the way I could hear the local Tram from Pemberton pulling up with squealing brakes and tooting of its horn. I would have liked to go see it but I could not work out a way to get to it and it had gone by the time I had returned to the viewing area

I had a look for the cache on the way back but the GPS was sending me all around the place
The other teams had already found it and were waiting at the viewing platform. They were able to give me a hint as where to look so I quickly went back and then made a quick find
It was now getting late in the afternoon and we still had a bit of a drive to our camp site for tonight, Snotty Gobble camping area
We dragged the kids out of the creek and jumped in the car for the drive to the camping area

Along the way we stopped to have a look at the Gloucester Tree in Pemberton.
There is an entry fee to get in to the parking area here, but I found a spot on the side of the road nearby to park and walked in
Today, the Gloucester Tree has retired from its duties as a fire lookout tree but is available for the enjoyment of visitors. You can climb 53 metres to the lookout structure which affords spectacular views over the surrounding karri forest and farmland.
Charlie and Kaylin did not waste any time and started climbing up without any hesitation. They quickly and easily got to the top, I was not so keen and was happy to just stand at the bottom and take some photos

After they had been up to the top and back down again we set off to our camp site for tonight

Once we arrived at the camping area we chose the group camping site, the rest of the teams set up their camp beds in the undercover area and then we set about preparing our dinners

The night soon left us in the dark with the sounds of the forest all around us, we sat around the fire pit and chatted for a while. There was no fire for us due to the fire ban.
Before long it was time to go off to bed
The end of another long and tiring day, but such a great adventure with good company enjoying the amazing South West corner of our state with some fun caches which take us to awesome places

Tomorrow will be another amazing day and be the end of the adventure
